Künker sale 353, lot 3467

This specimen was lot 3467 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €240 (about US$334 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1777, A, Berlin. Greisenantlitz. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. Erworben am 02.08.1974. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1777, Berlin mint, old head. Minor field marks, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin, Breslau and Königsberg 1775-86, replacing a reichsthaler with a younger bust. The Aurich, Cleve and Magdeburg mints did not participate, having closed earlier. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 419,637.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen is 21,88 g.

Catalog reference: KM 332.1, Dav-2590; Olding 70; Kluge 122.3.
