Sincona sale 77, lot 2919

This specimen was lot 2919 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$850 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835. Taler 1801 A, Wien. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, 1792-1835, thaler of 1801, Vienna mint. Very rare, Very fine.)"

This type of 1792-1804 is also listed as Dav-1178. It is rather scarce. It is the second-to-last type struck for Francis using his title of Holy Roman Emperor, which title he gave up in 1806.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 27.76 g.
