Salzburg 1801-M thaler Dav-1265
This specimen was lot 5351 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Salzburg, Erzbistum Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1722-1803. Taler 1801. Schrötlingsf. Av., sonst vorzüglich. (Archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1722-1803, thaler of 1801. Nice extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1789-1803 and is common. In 1803 the archbishopric was secularized and given to an Austrian archduke. In 1809, it was handed over to the elector of Bavaria, who had long coveted it. After Napoleon was ousted, the region was not returned to the archbishop but was annexed by Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
