Jean Elsen sale 150, lot 1478

This specimen was lot 1478 in Jean Elsen sale 150 (Brussels, March 2022), where it sold for €750 (about US$994 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, SALZBOURG, Archevêché, Jérôme de Colloredo (1772-1803), AV ducat, 1800. D/ B. à d. R/ Armoiries. Légères traces de monture. Très Beau à Superbe. (Holy Roman Empire, archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus of Colloredo, 1772-1803, gold ducat of 1800. Obverse: bust right; reverse: arms. Light traces of a mount, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type, struck 1787-1802, is among the more common German ducats. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
