Sincona sale 4, lot 5350

This specimen was lot 5350 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$665 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Salzburg, Erzbistum Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1722-1803. Dukat 1797. Brustbild in Amtstracht nach rechts. Rv. Wappen auf gekröntem Wappenmantel, unten die Jahreszahl. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1722-1803, ducat of 1797. Obverse: bust to right; reverse: crowned, mantled arms, date below. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type, struck 1787-1802, is among the more common German ducats. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3,48 g.
