This specimen was lot 22569 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $477.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hamburg. Free City Taler 1623, VF-XF. Attractively toned. Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor is featured in the legend." This type was struck 1620-37 followed by a very similar type struck in the name of Ferdinand II, 1637-53. It is technically a 32 schilling piece but is universally classed as a thaler. The city of Hamburg issued coins almost continuously until the end of World War One and the mint there is still in operation, striking coins for the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-5365, KM 47.
