This specimen was lot 13141 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $969. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamburg. Taler (32 Schilling), 1628. NGC AU-55." This type was struck 1620-37 followed by a very similar type struck in the name of Ferdinand II, 1637-53. It is technically a 32 schilling piece but is universally classed as a thaler. The city of Hamburg issued coins almost continuously until the end of World War One and the mint there is still in operation, striking coins for the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
