Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74196

This specimen was lot 74196 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOHEMIA. 1/4 Taler, 1573. Joachimstal Mint. Maximilian II. NGC EF Details--Environmental Damage. A VERY RARE minor with steel gray surfaces and a great deal of charm remaining despite the noted issue." This type was struck 1573-76 for Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, and is quite scarce. Other varieties exist, including KM MB211 (lion in arms), MB212 (lion in arms) and MB213 (date on reverse).
