This specimen was lot 30312 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $10,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "China, People's Republic gold Proof "Year of the Dragon" 500 Yuan (5 oz) 1988 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. A superb example showcasing bold detailing virtually unimpacted by handling or contact. Nearly flawless, and an impressive representative of the type in every way. Total AGW 5.0 oz." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The gold panda is one of the most popular.
