Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 57377
SB124-57377 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 57377 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). 20 Bolognini, 1777. Bologna Mint. Pius VI. PCGS EF-45." This type was issued in 1777 for Pius VI (1774-99) from the Bologna mint. At Bologna, 80 bolognini = one scudo instead of one hundred baiocchi as in Rome. Therefore twenty bolognini = twenty-five baiocchi = quarter scudo. This type is not listed as expensive.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.28 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Ber-3051, KM-262.
