This specimen was lot 32566 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). 4 Baiocchi, 1777. Rome Mint. Pius VI. NGC MS-64. A most pleasing minor, this near-Gem glistens and glows with a bright luster, and is sharply detailed throughout." This type was struck 1777 and 1793-94. It accompanies the similar eight (KM 1235) and twelve baiocchi (KM 1252). It does not fit the quasidecimal system adopted in 1740 (ten baiocchi = one giulio, ten giulio = one scudo).
