Áureo y Calicó sale 391, lot 1237

This specimen was lot 1237 in Aureo y Calicó sale 391 (Barcelona, June 2022), where it sold for €90 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1522. Carlos I. Augsburgo. 1 batzen. Bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. EBC. (Germany, city of Augsburg, Charles I, batzen of 1522. Handsome, mint luster, scarce thus, extremely fine.)"

A batzen was four kreuzer and this type was struck by the city 1522-23. The imperial administration, temporarily headquartered there 1516-33, also struck batzen in 1522 (KM MB 21).
