This specimen was lot 6251 in Sincona sale 81 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 38,000 CHF (about US$35,955 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Confederation, 1 Rappen 1896 B, Bern. Of the highest rarity. Only 36 pieces struck. Uncirculated. Magnificent condition." This type was struck at the Bern mint 1850-1941. This is a rare date. Zinc rappen were minted during World War Two and when bronze rappen resumed in 1948, a modified design was introduced.
