Vaud 1810 5 batzen
This specimen was lot 2610 in Sincona sale 90 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$397 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Vaud, 5 Batzen 1810, Lausanne. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Vaud, five batzen of 1810, Lausanne mint. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This type is listed for 1807-14 and is not rare. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen 4.73 g.
