Regensburg 1774-GCB 1/2 thaler KM-421
This specimen was lot 3290 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS JOSEF II., 1765-1790. Kurant- und Scheidemünzen aus der Zeit des Kaisers Josef II. Konv.-Taler 1774, mit Titel Josefs II. Münzmeister Georg Christoph Busch. Stempelschneider Johann Nikolaus Körnlein. Mit geteilter Rückseitenumschrift. Hübsche Patina, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (city of Regensburg, convention thaler of 1773, struck in the name of Joseph II, with divided reverse legend. handsome patina, some scratched, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck in 1774 with variations in the emperor's portrait: KM 423/Dav-2624 (shown here), KM 424/Dav-2624A and KM 425 (small bust).
