This coin, called a cinquième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a twenty cent piece. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the 1/5 écu = 24 sols. The type was struck 1741-74 and is recorded for the Strasbourg mint ("BB") for 1741 only. This specimen was lot 1468 in CGB sale 31 (Paris, June 2007) and is counted among the common dates.

Recorded mintage: 135,456[1].

Specification: 5.9 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26 mm diameter, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
