Mexico 1877-Ga A 10 centavos

This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1871-95 at the Guadalajara mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. This specimen was lot 8937 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $258.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guadalajara. 10 Centavos, 1877-GaA. Toned. NGC MS-64."
