Danish West Indies 1878 20 cents
This type was struck for the Danish West Indies (now the U. S. Virgin Islands) in 1878-79. The 1879 has a higher mintage but is priced double the 1878. The 1878 is not rare in circulated condition but is popular because of the three-masted bark on the reverse. In 1917, Denmark sold its share of the West Indies to the United States.
Recorded mintage: 200,000.
Specification: 6.96 g, .625 fine silver, .140 troy oz ASW, 26 mm diameter, reeded edge.
