Baden 1908-G 3 mark

This specimen was lot 71119 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $630. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 3 Marks, 1908-G. Karlsruhe Mint. NGC PROOF-65. A reflective and flashy Gem Proof with some blue hues on the peripherals. None have been certified finer by NGC." This three mark of 1908-15 is accompanied by a silver two mark and five mark (Dav-538). This date is the first issue of ths type. The last grand duke, Friedrich II, abdicated in the maelstrom of the collapse of the Wilhelmine regime in 1918.
