The first specimen was lot 3482 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Josef II. 1765-1790. 2 Dukaten 1786, A, Wien. GOLD. Attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-90, double ducat of 1786, Vienna mint. Attractive extremely fine.)"
This specimen was lot 3639 in Sincona sale 26 (Zurich, October 2015), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$927 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Joseph II. 1765-1790 Doppeldukat 1786. A, Wien. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kl. Randfehler. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, double ducat of 1786, Vienna mint. Very fine to extremely fine, small rim nicks.)"
Like most double ducats, this type, listed for 1783-87, is scarce but slightly more common than prior types.
