Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72886
Uruguay SB1019-72886r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72886 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. 10 Centesimos, 1893. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Variety without mint mark. The sole example certified by PCGS with only one other listed on the NGC population report (MS-64). A much more difficult variety to obtain without mintmark certain to pique the interest of the specialist. Light signs of circulation consistent for the grade with light attractive tone. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type was struck in 1877 at Paris and in 1893 at Santiago, Chile. For some reason, a few were released without the So mintmark.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 (including those with the So mintmark).

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-14.
