This type was struck 1877 and 1893 as part of a brief experiment with silver coinage. The 1877 issue was struck at Paris; the 1893 issue was struck at Santiago, Chile. A rare variety exists with the anchor privy mark pointing right instead of left. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the nineteenth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. Ten centésimos struck in the twentieth century were base metal.
