This specimen was lot 22271 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "AZORES. 75 Reis, 1795. Maria I. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Portuguese Administration issue. Impressively detailed with subtle luster over the gray toned surfaces. VERY RARE quality for this seldom-seen issue and presently the single finest example certified by either PCGS or NGC. Ex: Stack's (7/2001) Lot # 637." The Azores, then as now a dependency of Portugal, generally had to make do with copper coins. This type was struck 1794-95 only, and is the only issue of the denomination.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
