Brandenburg 1676-GDZ 2/3 thaler KM-445.1
This specimen was lot 319 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,348 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich Wilhelm, der Große Kurfürst, 1640-1688. 2/3 Taler 1676, GDZ, Minden. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast vorzügliches Exemplar mit hübscher Patina Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 64, Osnabrück 2001, Nr. 4030. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick William, the Great Elector, 1640-88, two thirds thaler of 1676, Minden mint. Scarce in this quality, about extremely fine with handsome toning.)"
The final third of the seventeenth saw a profusion of issues of this denomination. For the Minden mint, we see KM 445.2 (mintmaster A-VH, minted 1675-76), KM 445.3 (mintmaster GD-Z, minted 1675-79, date at upper left) and KM 445.4 (mintmaster GD-Z/AV-H), in addition to the KM 445.1 shown here.
