Sincona sale 47, lot 1651

This specimen was lot 1651 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, Konigreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Ecu à la mèche longue de France-Navarre-Béarn 1651, Pau. Sehr schön. Kratzer. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu of the long lock of Navarre of 1651, Pau mint. Very fine, Scratches.)"

This type was struck at Pau and Morlaàs 1650-62. This date comes with and without an "F". It is priced about double the typical écu à la mèche longue. Many varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, plain edge; this specimen 26.77 g.
