Spain 1980(81) 5 pesetas
This type was struck 1980-82. It marked the final five pesetas to use the clumsy "date in stars" system. Although the coin is dated 1980, the true minting date is incuse in the stars on the reverse, where a tiny "81" can be spied. This copper-nickel module, first used by the Franco regime in 1957, was converted to aluminum bronze in 1989. In 1982, US$1 = 111 pesetas. The "ESPAÑA '82" on the reverse refers to the upcoming World Cup of Soccer, which was held in Spain.
