Spain 1980 peseta rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck 1980-82. It marked the final peseta to use the clumsy "date in stars" system. Although the coin is dated 1980, the true minting date is incuse in the stars on the reverse, where a tiny "80" can be spied. It is also the final use of this aluminun-bronze module, first used by the Franco regime in 1944. The subsequent peseta (KM 81) was aluminum. The "ESPAÑA '82" on the reverse refers to the upcoming World Cup of Soccer, which was held in Spain. In 1982, US$1 = 111 pesetas.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 3.5 g, aluminum bronze, 21 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: Cayón-17958, KM 816.
