Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74326

This specimen was lot 74326 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. 5 Pounds, AH 1414/1993. Cairo Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Struck to honor the great Sphinx in the Giza Plateau. A powerful image of the monument facing up and to the right, almost protecting the pyramids behind it, with full reflective surfaces and satin like devices." This denomination was also used for KM 740, 742, KM 743, KM 744, KM 745, KM 746, KM 747, 748, KM 793, 812, 869 and 879. Most were in silver of the module shown here. None are individually rare but assembling a set is a challenge. Many of the designs were also used on gold fifty pounds.

Recorded mintage: 50,000 proofs.

Specification: 22.50 g, 0.999 fine silver, 0.722 troy oz ASW.
