This specimen was lot 29811 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "Federal Republic Proof 5 Mark 1956-D PR65 NGC, Munich mint. A vibrant example with mottled, multi-colored tone that sits atop flashy mirrored fields. Gem in all regards, this seldom encountered Proof type features the large, emblematic eagle of Germany." This type was minted in West Germany at all the mints (D, F, G, J) 1951-74. This is a better date tho the proofs are rare. Commemorative five marks were minted to this weight standard until 1975, when the weight was lowered to 5.3 grams.

Recorded mintage: 1,092,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.2 g, .625 fine silver, .225 troy oz ASW, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM112.1.
