This specimen was lot 1035 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA: EMPIRE: Alexander II, 1855-1881, AE 3 kopeks, 1867, St. Petersburg Mint, a wonderful lightly toned lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS64 BN." In 1867, the copper coinage was redesigned and reduced in weight. This three kopeks was struck 1867-76 at Ekaterinburg (Y11.1) and 1867-84, 1891-1914 at St. Petersburg. The Birmingham mint helped out in 1896-98 but these do not have any distinguishing marks.
Recorded mintage: 909,500 for 1867-68.
Specification: 8 g, copper, 28 mm diameter per the SCWC; 9.83 g, 28.36 mm diameter per Numista.
