Norway 1726-HCM 4 mark Dav-1292
This specimen was lot 43781 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Krone, 1726-HCM. Frederick IV (1699-1730). NGC AU Details--Mount Removed. Nicely detailed with attractive tone over the surfaces. An unfortunate scoop out of the rim at twelve o'clock where a mount once resided determines the "details" grade." This type was struck 1725-26 along with a two mark (KM 221). This coin is a little small to be classed as a thaler (an honor more properly belonging to the contemporary six mark), but it has a Davenport number so we will include it. It is a two year type and like most Norwegian coins of the eighteenth century, it is scarce. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814.
