Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 40224
SB821-40224r.jpg

The first specimen was lot 30083 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark. Frederick IV Krone (4 Mark) 1726-CW MS63 NGC, Copenhagen mint. A choice and fully original example of this very scarce type with silvery gray toning and underlying mint luster. The central details are especially sharp and the overall eye appeal is excellent. Certainly rare in this grade. Ex. Heritage Auction #3019 (April 2012, Lot 24176). From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns." The second specimen was lot 40224 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. Krone (4 Mark), 1726-CW. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik IV. NGC MS-63. Evenly struck with the addition of soft peach, yellow, and purple tone over both sides that adds considerable character the appearance. RARE in the quality, this is the single finest example of this two-year type graded by NGC, making it a prime candidate for the collector aiming to assemble a high-class collection of world crowns." This rare type is listed for 1724 and 1726. It is a little small and a little low in silver to be a true crown but Davenport thought it worth including so we have included it as well.

Recorded mintage: 4,526.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.671 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 524, Dav-1291.
