Denmark 1726 3 krone Dav-1293
This specimen was lot 1136 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €18,000 (about US$19,948 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Handsome 3 Krone with Only the Faintest Touches of Circulation, DENMARK. 3 Krone, 1726. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik IV. NGC AU-55. Mintmaster: Christian Wineke. Engraver: Peter Berg. Conditionally elusive, this attractive 3 Krone delivers a splendid appeal, with only light touches of wear and soft gleaming allure. The strike is essentially faultless, with the intricate design being executed at a high level. The oblique milling on the edge confirms this piece's status as an original striking, as later restrikes from the original dies can be distinguished on account of having a smooth edge."
A white metal pattern exists of this design (KM Pn46a). Numista says this coin was worth a double speciedaler but it actually has enough silver for 2⅓ speciedalers. It was not intended for circulation.
Recorded mintage: 86 plus restrikes.
Specification: 67.15 g, 0.671 fine silver, 53.1 mm diameter, this specimen 67.37 g.
