Sincona sale 51, lot 4306

This specimen was lot 4306 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"20 Rappen 1939 B, Bern. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (Swiss confederation, twenty rappen of 1939, Bern mint. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated.)"

This type was converted from nickel to copper-nickel in 1939. None were struck 1940-42. This type was struck 1881-1980 without any design change. This date is scarce. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.

Recorded mintage: 8,100,000.

Specification: copper-nickel, 4 g, plain edge, 21.05 mm diameter, this specimen 3.94 g.
