France 1768-S 1/2 louis d'or
Revision as of 11:13, 8 August 2023 by LatinKing2020 (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - " .917 fine" to " 0.917 fine")
This specimen was lot 2305 in UBS sale 76. It is a half louis d'or au bandeau minted at Reims (mintmark "S") during the reign of Louis XV of France. The type was struck 1741-53 and intermittently 1755-70. Like all half louis, it is very rare. Droulers[1] gives this date a slight premium over the common date (1741-A) but this coin is too rare to collect by date.
Recorded mintage: 2,454.
Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
