France 1768A tenth ecu rev 600.jpg

This diminutive coin, called a dixième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the dixième d'écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1740-70 and is recorded for the Paris mint ("A") for most of those years.

Recorded mintage: 12,450. The SCWC lists this date as common but Droulers[1] lists this date as scarce. After some substantial issues in the 1740's, mintages dwindled in the 1760's.

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Dr/2 № 587, Dr/4 № 850, KM 511.1.
