This specimen was lot 20434 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1768-A. Paris Mint. Louis XV (1715-74). NGC MS-61. Well struck and attractively toned with eye grabbing gleam in the fields. The finest graded example of this date at NGC or PCGS." This is a late date of the louis d'or au bandeau, which was struck 1740-74. It is reported as common, along with the 1768-R; other mints are known to have struck this type in 1768 but no survivors have turned up.

Recorded mintage: 236,956[2], a common date.

Specification: 8.158 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge.
