Mexico 1628-Mo D 8 reales
This specimen was lot 70005 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Cob 8 Reales, 1628/7-Mo D. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS EF-40. A piece that is certain to be much desired, this cob yields good details and strike for the type. Displaying none of the problems that often plague the series, this piece is assured a plethora of excited bids." This type was struck 1621-67 in Mexico City and is not rare except in high grade but specimens with legible dates are scarce.
