This specimen was lot 72085 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Reales, 1765-LM. Lima Mint; Assayers Joseph Rodriguez de Carrasa & Manuel de Iglesia Abarca (J M). Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. This 4 Reales piece has lost much of its original finishing due to the noted cleaning. Nonetheless, the coin's legends and devices remain satisfyingly crisp. This example presents handsomely overall. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck 1752-1760 for king Ferdinand VI. Four reales were also struck for Charles III in 1760 (KM 63) but are much scarcer. As a class, pillar coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, though it is more available than the remaining mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-limonite, KM-63; Cal-822.
