Germany 1929-F 5 mark Dav-971
This specimen was lot 32082 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 5 Mark, 1929-F. Stuttgart Mint. NGC PROOF-66 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Weimar Constitution. A dramatic and enticing specimen of this VERY SCARCE Proof date, the devices sporting gorgeous icy-white frost in contrast to the deeply mirrored fields. Only the minutest of hairlines is to be seen upon close inspection, and the light haze would appear to be the only limiting factor from a finer grade." This type, issued 1929, was struck in some numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F", shown here), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is among the more available of the Weimar commemoratives. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only 0.500 fine. Hindenburg is honored here as the president of the Reich even tho he bore only contempt for the republic.
Recorded mintage: 60,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, lettered edge, 37 mm diameter.
