Sincona sale 38, lot 1302

This specimen was lot 1302 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$510 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Louis XV. 1715-1774 1/2 Louis dor aux lunettes 1732 A. Paris. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold half louis of the spectacles of 1732, Paris mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type is recorded for France for 1726-39 but all the dates are rare with the exception of the 1726-A. The Paris mint struck this type 1726, 1728-33, 1735-39 and is among the more available mints.

Recorded mintage: 4,000[1], a very scarce date.

Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine gold, 20 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers. This specimen 4.03 g.
