Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73621

This specimen was lot 73621 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1732-(9). Rennes Mint. Louis XV. NGC EF-40. A nicely toned survivor, with good strike but strong die adjustments marks on both sides." Droulers reports 1726-1740 from this mint. The mint operated until 1771 and most dates are common. The type was struck 1726-40 during the reign of Louis XV. This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's.

Specification: 29.49 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM.
