France 1732-& ecu
This specimen was lot 10219 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1732-&. NGC MS-61. Some adjustment marks. Dappled russet toning. Strong luster." Most Aix mint issues are common. Droulers reports 1726-1740 from this mint. The mint operated until 1786. The type was struck 1726-40 during the reign of Louis XV of France. This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's.
