This specimen was lot 1395 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIAN EMPIRE: Nicholas I, 1825-1855, AE 5 kopeks, 1838, Ekaterinburg Mint, Nikolai Alekseev assayer, an attractive mint state example with partial original red mint luster! PCGS graded MS62 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type was struck at Ekaterinburg in large quantities 1831-39 and is common in circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 24,430,000.
