Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 49426

This specimen was lot 49426 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $125. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Ore, 1720. Stockholm Mint. Ulrika Eleonora. VERY FINE." This denomination was struck in copper (KM 364, KM 383) and billon (KM 381 and KM 382) for Ulrika and for Frederick after his wife Ulrika abdicated in 1720. One mark was eight öre. In 1720, Sweden was conceding defeat in the Great Northern War, surrendering the Baltic provinces to Russia, Bremen and Verden to Hanover, most of Swedish Pomerania to Prussia and recognizing Danish control of Schleswig-Holstein. The state was bankrupt.
