Sincona sale 11, lot 2340

This specimen was lot 2340 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,486 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Erzherzog Ferdinand Karl, 1632-1662. Doppeltaler o. J. (1654), Hall. Vorzüglich. (Austria, archduke Ferdinand Charles, 1632-62, double thaler without date, Hall mint. Extremely fine.)"

This is one of the few double thalers of this prince, who never attained the imperial crown. It is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 57.26 g, silver, this specimen 57.32 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3364; M.T. 511, KM 985 (formerly KM 837).
