Revision as of 09:12, 13 January 2026
The first specimen was lot 29239 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zurich Taler 1783, XF, lightly cleaned. Sharply struck for the type." The second specimen was lot 5342 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1783, Zürich. Extremely fine." This type is listed for 1783, 1794 and 1796. Its design is unusual as most Zurich thalers feature a city view. In 1798, Zurich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetian Republic.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, the second specimen 25.03 g.
