Scotsman sale, lot 28
Costa Rica 1850 2 escudos rev Sc-28.jpg

This type was struck in Costa Rica 1850-63 and normally comes flat struck. This date is listed as common. This specimen appeared in a Scotsman sale (St. Louis, July 2012), where the catalog noted, "Costa Rica - 1850-JB 2-escudo Close to UNC, although an inconsistent strike failed to bring up all of the central details, thereby limiting luster. Some peripheral lettering also shows incomplete sharpness, and the eight and zero in the date are filled by small die breaks."

Recorded mintage: 3,641.

Specification: 6.3 g, 0.875 fine gold, .177 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-8; KM-99.
