Sincona sale 47, lot 1328
Eichstatt, NW of Ingolstadt and SE of Ansbach, c. 1547

This specimen was lot 1328 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMANY, Eichstätt, Bistum, Johann Eucharius von Castell, 1685-1697. Taler 1694, Nürnberg. Stempel von G. F. Nürnberger. Mit Randschrift. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Schrötlingsriss. (bishopric of Eichstatt, John Eucharius of Castell, 1685-97, thaler of 1694, Nurnberg mint. Dies by G. F. Nurnberger, with edge lettering. Rare, Good very fine, Minor flan crack.)"

The bishopric of Eichstatt, now in Bavaria, occasionally issued coins. This one-year type is rare, unlike Dav-5236, the most common thaler for this locality in the seventeenth century.

Recorded mintage: 2,208.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.16 g.

Catalog reference: Cahn 112 a, Dav-5235; KM-45.
