Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection, lot 1112
SB924-1112r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1112 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €7,200 (about US$7,979 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Handsome Near-Gem Ducat with Mirrored King's Monogram, DENMARK. Ducat, 1691. Copenhagen Mint. Christian V. NGC MS-64. Mintmaster: Christian Wineke (CW). A splendid near-Gem Ducat, this handsome exemplar displays bold strike features, with handsome mirrored fields and surfaces that befit the assigned grade. As an incredibly appealing example of an uncommon type, this Ducat provides an allure that is hard to capture in words."

This is one of several ducats struck in 1691 (see also KM 415/Fr-156) and a double ducat (KM 416/Fr-154).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 3.71 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-201; KM-414; Hede-29; Sieg-102; Schou-8; Bruun-7062.
